I am a working mother raising three sons in Rio Rancho. Like most New Mexican families, it is important for us to budget our finances to make ends meet. The electricity rate hike proposed by PNM will strain my family’s budget and impact what we can spend on other important priorities like health care and education.
If PNM gets this rate increase, it will mean electricity bills have gone up by 45 percent since 2008. Why are PNM rates going up so fast? In the past year alone, PNM has spent more than $10 million lobbying the Public Regulation Commission for this hike and paying bonuses to its top five executives. PNM should stop making us pay its legal fees.
