Associated Press via Business Week: Groups Seek to Join Appeal in NM Power Plant Case

Environmentalists want to weigh in on a court battle over attempts by federal regulators to trim emissions from a coal-fired power plant that serves more than 2 million customers in the Southwest.

Public Service Company of New Mexico, a unit of PNM Resources Inc., filed an appeal in September to stop the Environmental Protection Agency’s plan for having the utility install top-of-the-line emission-cutting technology at the San Juan Generating Station near Farmington.

On Tuesday, a coalition of environmental groups filed a motion in federal court to intervene in the case.

PNM contends the technology is unnecessary and would result in a financial burden for customers.
