New energy technologies, resources, products
and services can be a major driver for investments and job
growth in New Mexico. Although New Mexico is ideally positioned
to be a leader in the new energy economy, focused public policy
efforts are needed to create new markets and attract additional
private investment to New Mexico.
Equally important, New Mexico must develop a coordinated
and organized approach that slows global warming emissions,
so that we can mitigate effects like depleting snow and water
resources. Focused public efforts will slow global warming
emissions from many sectors in NM.
To meet the challenge of global warming we need strong leadership
to ensure that by 2020:
- New Mexico becomes a national leader in high performance buildings. By using our solar resources and innovative building design we can ensure that all buildings in NM are constructed to use 70% less fossil fuels. MORE»
- New Mexico becomes a leading exporter of renewable energy resources. The state has some of the best solar and wind resources in the world, and we are working to ensure that at least 30% of New Mexico's power comes from renewable sources by 2020. MORE»
- New Mexico has the most fuel efficient vehicles in the country. New Energy Economy is working to ensure that our vehicles are 40% cleaner and more efficient. MORE»
- New Mexico has set responsible limits on global warming pollution to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to 10% below 2000 levels by 2020. MORE»
