Policies that Set Limits on Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Pollution

global warming

The scientific community is clear that we must stabilize carbon dioxide levels at 450ppm if we are to limit global temperatures from rising above 2°C. To limit CO2 levels from rising above 450ppm we need immediate action now.

Credible scientists like James Hansen from NASA are making it very clear that we will miss this target if we wait even a decade for strong action as there are thousands of coal plants planned for the US, India, and China.

In the coming months we will post global warming policy recommendations on this site. Please check back with us.

There is now consensus that to stabilize CO2 levels at 450ppm, we need to reduce emissions by 60-80% by mid-century. Governors Schwarzenegger and Richardson have issued targets that will meet that goal and are commensurate the with magnitude of the problem.

New Energy Economy is working in partnership with many New Mexicans to develop a package of policy solutions that will help us meet those targets.

“This is an emergency of historic proportions. We are in a race against time. There is a brave and hearty band of about 2 percent of Washington officials who are working on this, but 98 percent are in denial.”
