A Policy Plan for New Mexico

Buckman Mesa

At New Energy Economy we are working to promote four priority policy areas that will help make New Mexico a leader in creating new energy technologies and help us meet the challenge of global warming. The Campaign for a New Energy Economy is working to ensure that by 2020:

  • New Mexico becomes a national leader in high performance buildings. By using our solar resources and innovative building design we can ensure that all buildings in NM are constructed to use 70% less fossil fuels. MORE»
  • New Mexico becomes a leading exporter of renewable energy resources. The state has some of the best solar and wind resources in the world, and we are working to ensure that at least 30% of New Mexico's power comes from renewable sources by 2020. MORE»
  • New Mexico has the most fuel efficient vehicles in the country. New Energy Economy is working to ensure that our vehicles are 40% cleaner and more efficient. MORE»
  • New Mexico has set responsible limits on global warming pollution to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to 10% below 2000 levels by 2020. MORE»

Such policy goals would not only address global warming but would foster industries, create jobs, and save New Mexican consumers and tax-payers billions of dollars in the coming decades.

“The trends could result in global surface temperature differences... threatening the economy, quality of life, and environment that our generation will provide for future generations including children who are growing up in New Mexico today.”

Governor Bill Richardson, Climate Change and Greenhouse Gas Reduction Executive Order, June 2005
