Biomass Projects

Biomass is an energy resource derived from organic matter. These include wood, agricultural waste and other living-cell material that can be burned to produce heat energy.

Dexter biomass

Plans to build an ethanol plant
Dexter, Chaves County, NM

A Seattle firm, E85, announced plans to build a 200 million-gallon-per-year facility in rural Chaves County. The plant will hire 45 to 50 people full time when it goes into operation in mid-2008. The plant will be a leading supplier of renewable motor fuels in New Mexico and adjoining states. The plant will use corn fuel stock, with most of the corn coming from the Midwest.

Jemez Biomass

Jemez Mountain School Biomass Heating Project
Gallina, New Mexico

The project is the first of its kind in the Southwest and utilizes wood chips obtained from forest thinning projects as the principal fuel source for a public facility.

gila river

Biodiversity Coalition Chip Production Project
Gila National Forest, Grant County

This project will chip trees resulting from forest restoration and Wildland Urban Interface fuels reduction projects on the Gila National Forest to provide the Fort Bayard Medical Center with biomass for a new biomass fired boiler system. www.fs.fed.us

las cruces

Biomass Industry Distributed Energy Resources Project
Las Cruces, New Mexico/Texas

The goal of this project is to design, construct, operate, and evaluate a two-phase, biofermentation system to convert carbon in dairy manure to methane, produce electricity for on-site use, interconnect to the local utility, sell excess power to the grid and evaluate the reuse of the resulting solids as beneficial soil amendment.
