May 9 - First Annual Climate Truth-teller Award Event in Las Cruces
Time & Location
About The Event
New Energy Economy has a lot of respect for many New Mexico legislators who acted wisely and with heart throughout the course of this legislative session. There is, however, no disputing the unparalleled courage of Senator Bill Soules who dove, head-first, into understanding the tool of securitization, a key piece of the Energy Transition Act, in order to create an alternative clean securitization bill which was based on best practices around the country. His alternative bill helped lift up the issues, elevate the discourse, and expose the ways the Energy Transition Act guts consumer protections at the People’s expense.
Senator Bill Soules did not stand down, even when it was clear that the deal had been pre-baked. He asked the hard questions, worked to educate others, demanded rigor and critical discourse - even though he took a lot of heat from the political power structure for doing so.
That is why New Energy Economy is awarding Senator Soules our first ever "Climate Truth-tellers Award" on May 9th in Las Cruces.
