Community Solar Passes 2nd Hurdle

Community solar survived its second committee hearing, advancing last night after a 5+ hour marathon meeting of the Senate Tax, Business and Transportation Committee to a floor vote in the Senate, which may come as soon as Monday. Amendments have weakened the bill, allowing utilities to own community solar projects and automatically giving Renewable Energy Credit ownership to utilities instead of solar developers.

After so many years working towards passage, a two year study by the Community Solar Working Group and the urgency of climate action, we have been alarmed by the lack of support we are seeing from party leadership. Community voices are needed to make sure the bill passes the Senate floor and two committees in the House without additional unfriendly amendments that remove the "community" from Community Solar.
