Join the growing number of New Mexicans opposing new fossil fuel infrastructure

Updated: Sep 6, 2023

Did you know that President Biden is coming to New Mexico to tout his climate bonafides next week? To point to the Inflation Reduction Act and pretend that real change is being made just as we take our first gasp of relatively cool air after a month of extreme heat?

New Mexican's are tired of the empty rhetoric, tired of the false promises, and tired of business as usual - neoliberal incentives begging for corporate climate action, even as the Government grants approval for more fossil fuel infrastructure, greenlighting the Conoco Phillips Willow Project in Alaska (estimated to extract and release annual emissions equivalent to 76 new coal fired power plants operating in a single year) and the Mountain Valley Pipeline project (estimated to have a yearly emissions impact equivalent to 26 coal plants.) Meanwhile here in New Mexico oil production rose by a record 300,000 barrels per day (bpd) in 2022, delivering half of US growth, and a new policy brief from NM Voices for Children highlights how climate action is necessary to protect New Mexico children.

New Mexicans are hot, we are angry, and opposition to New Mexico Gas Company's Liquefied Natural Gas Plant in Rio Rancho is growing. We were joined by 22 grassroots New Mexico organizations in our unified appeal to the public in Wednesday's Santa Fe Reporter to speak out against an investment of $180M of NMGC customer money into more fossil fuel infrastructure.

HELP US AMPLIFY THE PEOPLE'S VOICE UNTIL WE CAN'T BE IGNORED.

SIGN AND SHARE THE PETITION BELOW TO ASK THE PRC TO REJECT NEW FOSSIL FUEL INFRASTRUCTURE

New Mexico Gas Company's proposed LNG plant locks $180M of customer money into fossil fuel infrastructure, making it that much more difficult to transition away from fossil fuels and endangering the homes, health and future of New Mexicans. Our petition asks the Public Regulation Commission to reject this dangerous proposal. Sign the petition by clicking the link below.
